We had a tutor around today to discuss with our son about e-learning.

He was not looking forward to it at all but it went well and he seems very keen to start work on an e-media course.

He should be able to start it early next week so watch this space.

The initial part went OK with my lad being given a little tour of the website and his password etc.

He did his initiation/intro which then comes back with a timetable. That all seemed reasonable for him to cope with.

He made a start on the first part this morning and it was so hard my son was quite upset by the time it was done.

Part of the reason is his Autism as he just doesn't understand some of the wording. ie the first part was about him conducting a workshop around digital photography.

I had to sit with him and give him meanings for words and go into a great deal of detail about their meanings before he understood.

We'll try again in a couple of days and hope he doesn't get quite so stressed next time.

Well he won't do any more of the course.

It stressed him out so much with us just asking to look at it.

He says it's too hard to understand and it's boring and stressing him out.

I'll have to phone them and let them know tomorrow.

I'm not sure what he'll do now.

Typical. It sounds as though they decided that as he has autism he'll love working on a computer, without thinking about the difficulties he might face in understanding abstract words. Leaving you to pick up the pieces, of course.

Sefton have never understood Autism at all, especially my son.
He appears to be so high functioning but he really is just confident, which is good, but it makes him seem more able than he really is.

He does love working on the PC but it is at his own pace and things he wants to do. ie making vids for youtube or writing music. Mostly playing his games though.LOL

I must admit sometimes we forget how his Autism affects him so I can't really blame someone else whose only met him briefly on 2 occasions.

I'll have a word with them today but the chap seems to be more interested in getting our lad some qualifications ready for work.

I keep telling them that he has never even been out of the house on his own but their own adgenda seems to blot out what I say.

I'll keep you updated.

I'll keep you posted.
