I got the minutes from a child in need meeting i attended with my friend. She wants to move her child from the special school he is in, into 24 hour education.
It just has a list of the people who attended, and then a box with the headings "action agreed", and "who". Thats it. Now my friend objected to two of the actions, her social worker spoke on her behalf, but none of this was recorded.
Can anyone tell me if this is a typical account? Its my first one as a Parent Partnership rep, and my boss is on annual leave so i can't ask her.

Has anyone any ideas?

Sounds like a LAC meeting.

Did you take minutes/notes? If you did then maybe they should be typed up and forwarded to all the parties that are involved so that the parents objections are made official.

Could you ask a collegue what they would do or is there only your boss?

Maybe book with all the formalities in at the office. I know there's proceedures and orders of doing things which are usually all written down in a book/folder.

Personally regardless of what this meeting is about it is acceptable to tell the minute/note taker of any parts that you feel are wrong or inappropriate.

If your friend is not appy then she needs to ask the person who was her proxy in this case the social worker to raise these issues with the note taker and have these records redistributed.

For any official meeting, if you believe that something hs been recorded incorrectly or is not documented and you know it was discussed then you should be able to have this redressed either by you raising it to the note taker or the parent.

What you cannot do usually without having another meeting is changing an action or outcome which has been agreed at the meeting

My friends son had a seizure. He's never had one before, so it scared the life out of her. I'm betting the school won't block her move now. They only want well behaved pipils with no medical problems.
I'm still going to question the minutes. My name wasn't even on the list of those who attended! Plus i had to phone the school for a copy! I thank god every day my son is in a good school.

That must have been so worrying for your friend. I know it was when my daughter had her first seizure.
I hope he will recover quickly and soon be back to his usual self. They don't half bounce back don't they.

It sounds like the meeting wasn't very well organised. There are rules about these meetings which are supposed to be there to ensure the child gets the right help. I hope you get it sorted.

You and me both regarding the school our son's are at. It's one of the best.

Do question them and I am sorry to hear about the fit.

The person who took the notes is obviously either very inexperienced or does not really understand how to take notes - so whichever way your input will be of great value.
