Home Access to Technology - DCSF consultation
The Home Access programme aims to ensure that every family in England with children aged 5 to 19, irrespective of their circumstances, has access to learning where and when they need it through the use of ICT resources and support. A pilot is currently being managed by Becta in 50 schools in Birmingham, Worcestershire, Stockton and Brent, investigating ways of lowering the cost of computer equipment and connectivity and informing parents about the educational benefits of a home computer.
This includes subsidising the cost of acquiring home technology for a whole year group, through a combination of direct funding for schools and parental contributions.
The DCSF is holding a consultation on Home Access to Technology, to consider for example, the role of local authorities, the role of the technology industry, and how to avoid overburdening teachers. Background information and response forms are available from the DCSF.
