Hi Pixie.

The law says no hospital discharge without a care package in place from day one. (Community Care [Delayed Discharges] Act 2003). Social Services are in breach - time for a complaint?

Thanks for that Charles but I think my father in law was rather too proud/stubborn and when asked he refused any help apparently. I didn't know that when I wrote my post.

I just feel for his wife but maybe she will have some influence over him to get some help in.

That info is very useful Charles and I'm sure if they just hadn't bothered we could have complained.

Pixie I remember what a tottering time we had when hubby's mum had dementia and getting her to allow help was a nightmare. We managed to arrange some day care for her and dusters in hand i would lurk to see if mum (bless her) would get in the car/bus and go. If she went it meant I had the day to change her bed and clean the house before she got back!
I tell you - it was not easy.
