Reduction for people with disabilities.
The Local Government Finance Act 1992 and the Reduction for Disabilities Regulations 1992, provide for a reduction to the valuation band immediately below that allocated to the dwelling, as shown in the Banding List, providing that certain qualifying conditions are applicable.
They are:-
(a)a disabled person must be resident in the dwelling, and
(b)the dwelling contains a room other than bathroom, kitchen, or lavatory which is required for meeting the needs of a person with a disability, or
(c)an additional kitchen or bathroom which is required for meeting the needs of a person with a disability, or
(d)there is sufficient floor space to permit the use of a wheelchair required for meeting the needs of a person with a disability resident in the dwelling.
N.B. A wheelchair is not required for meeting a persons needs if he or she does not need to use it within the dwelling.
From 1st April 2000, properties in band A can also qualify for a reduction, if the conditions are satisfied.
The Council Tax will be reduced from 6/9ths to 5/9ths of the band D amount
