No but I would be interested to hear your experiences.
I recently did a Parent to Parent course for Children with Special Needs which was very good. We learned some good tips.

it starts next week and carries on for 12 weeks. i will let you know how it goes. i read up that it is a course that was originally used at the maudsley which is where my eldest had her autistic diagnosis from. it does sound very interesting.
will keep you posted.
hope your enjoying your day. off on the school run now

Will be interested in what you think of it Barbsy. I am starting the course next Thursday. My friend has just finished it and even though she said she enjoyed W - S she said that it did not really solve the problem that she has with her daughter. Any one else have any experience of this course?

hi all.
well i went to the first session today.just introducing ourselves and each parent telling a bit about their child and their difficulties and behaviours etc.it was interesting and will be every monday for 12 weeks. it looks like its basically based on time out and stuff like that.which i have done and it doesnt work in our case so i will see how it goes.one mum said her son screams every day for macdonalds so she takes him, he now goes 7 days a week and when she tries not to take him he hits out etc, the instructor told her that its a learnt behaviour because he cannot take himself and she has caused him to think that its a daily thing and now it cannot be broken. this woman just could not see it, she really thinks it is her sons fault and cannot see she has made the problem herself.
i think i could have run todays sesson myself, but will see how it goes !!!
never too late to learn i guess.

OMG! Went to my first session this week and sorry to say that it is going to be my last. Getting a sticker for turning up did not bode well and I can honestly say that I learnt absolutely nothing in the three hours that I was there. Whilst I can see that the course may be of use to some parents, it really was not for me. Part of the trouble apart from the fact that I never accept anything without questioning it (unfortunately I seemed to be the only one as everyone seemed to think that it was fantastic) is that it is not a special needs course. Whilst our children are still children, the more conventional rules of child care just cannot be applied. Nothing that they said was rocket science but the guidelines would just not work for our children - their needs are too specific and they do not fit the mould. Half of me thinks that I should give it another go, but I really have not got the time. Hopefully your course will be better Barbsy!

the one i am doing is based around the webster course but has been specifically designed for children with special needs particularly autism etc.ive only done the first couple of weeks which was more introduction and what peoples expectations of the course are. i couldnt go this week cos my sons unwell, so now im alredi thinking i might not bother, will see how i feel. i just thought even after 22 years of being a mum i might pick something up ive missed !! not quite sure what though.

Sorry to hear ou are not impressed with your courses.
I must admit having two very sensible tutors on our one and the chance to discuss issues and to be able to challenge things that have not worked was very refreshing. The only part of the one I did which I was disappointed about was the Home/School issues week - but then maybe I was just expecting a miracle.
Although the course was a few months ago when I was feeling really miserable about Thomas at school and his outbursts I called the tutor and she was great just chatting on the phone.
I am truly amazed sometimes with people who cannot see that issues that they are usually experiencing in some cases stem from their actions. I know this is not always the case but even with Thomas I can see things which I have done which I am not trying to undo
