Ah sleep disorders. I could write a book on those I think!
My son (high functioning autistic) barely slept as a baby (or toddler, or infant, or........... ) he would "cat nap" for maybe 20 mins at a time. Sometimes he would litereally go days without sleeping. As a parent, it was utter torture. Sleep deprivation must be one of the worst things ever. You simply cease to function as a human being.
We took him to a sleep clinic, they suggested all the usual things that they tell parents: a nice bath before bed, a relaxing story etc.....
Ha! what a load of hogwash! it may work with NT kids but not with ASD ones!
Anyways, to cut a long story short, this experience (probably ) lead to me developing Sleep Apnea
OK I cant say for certain that the sleep deprevation caused the sleep apnea, but I wouldnt be surprised.
Sleep apnea means that I stop breathing during sleep. This leads to daytime exhaustion/tiredness. It can also lead to lots of other nasties which I wont go into
The upshot being that I now have a CPAP machine which keeps me breathing at night.

Ah, the joys of parenthood eh?
