Our Health as Parents/CarersI don't know about others but my health has certainly gone down hill since becoming a carer for my kids.
I think a lot of it is stress related, for me anyway, but the ill health is still very real and restricts how much I can physically acheive.

i definately think caring is hard work...by the evening im totally shattered.i think one problem i find is that i havent actually got time to be ill if that makes sense, if im unwell whose gonna look after the little un, thats something i have always worried about. a few weeks ago i was taken ill and im fine now and it wasnt anything serious but all i could think of was my son and what would happen, its a really scary feeling. unfortunately stress shows up in many ways and sometimes it does feel more physical, like headaches chest pains tummy aches and so on.
people do not realise how much a strain looking after a child or adult with a disability can be.

You can say that again. My health is poor to say the least. You just have to keep going though and it can be very very soul destroying at the best of times.
I think a lot of the time we (as carers) basically live "on the edge" and that can be a difficult place to be.
But no one (apart from us carers) understands or gives a damn.

Couldn't agree more. It is 24/7 isn't it. I am so busy looking after our two, that my own needs come way down the line and like you say, there is no time to be ill! People really don't understand and if one more person says to me "Oh yes, but all children are difficult", I think that I might murder them! At least I would get a rest in prison!!

What I seem to find is that when you are under huge stress, you cope. Goodness knows how, but you do. But, when the stress eases off, thats when your body kind of gives up and your health takes a nose dive.
We've had a few weeks of constant stress but now its all eased off I get ill
Or maybe thats just me

No doubt about it. It does affect your health. It was seeing how knackered my friend was that started me helping with her little one. Had to bully her a bit into taking the help, and there was a lot that I couldn't do but hopefully it made some difference. In no way could I say that she is back to how she was pre caring, but there has definitely been a change since she stopped.

I'm sure you did make a difference and I'm sure your friend really appreciated all you did.
Take care.
