ELIZABETH FINN CARE - GRANTS FOR INDIVIDUALS IN CRISISHi, maybe someone you know could use this?
ELIZABETH FINN CARE - GRANTS FOR INDIVIDUALS IN CRISIS
Do you provide advice and support to people in crisis? People who were once self-sufficient and
holding down responsible jobs but who are now facing hardship due to physical or mental health
problems, redundancy, family breakdown, bereavement, caring responsibilities or inadequate
pensions in retirement.
Elizabeth Finn Care is the UK''s largest, independent, direct grant-giving charity helping individuals
of British or Irish nationality, their partners and children with one-off grants or regular allowances
towards meeting life''s essentials. We can make a real difference to their lives by giving practical
help, advice and support; most importantly, we listen and care, restoring hope for the future and
welcoming into the Elizabeth Finn ''family''.

A long time ago this charity was known by another name, as the "Distressed Gentlefolk's Aid Association". Founded in 1897 by Elizabeth Finn, a missionary and tireless worker for the poor, in her 73rd year, she remained active in her charity for another 20 years!
When a small boy in the early 1960's, I was very fond of an elderly neighbour, a Miss Tarrant. She fell ill, and was admitted to our local NHS long stay geriatric unit - a former workhouse, where she stayed until she died. I remember visiting her there - it was a long bike ride out to the middle of the country to this grim gothic pile.
She had been a secretary in the Civil Service, but in those days there was no pension for women. Anyway, this Elizabeth Finn charity paid for her to have a single room, so that at least she didn't live - and die - on the public ward with 40 old people propped up - a regulation 6 feet between each bed...appalling.
Lest we forget Miss Tarrant..... there will always be a role for charities to fill the gaps .... but thank God we no longer have to fear the workhouse.
