check the rules next time you park in a council run car parkWoman appeals against advert fine
Gill Ockelford has not paid the £60 fine
A woman has been issued with a parking fine for displaying a 'for sale' advert in her car window.
Gill Ockelford, 43, from Billericay, Essex, parked at a meter banning advertising or sale of cars.
Mrs Ockelford, who is appealing, said she had only parked for 23 minutes while on a shopping trip and that she did not intend to sell the car on site.
She said she had not read the terms of parking on the meter. Basildon Council is expected to comment later.
Mrs Ockelford said: "I found I had a parking ticket and I looked at how I had parked the car because they fine you if you park outside the lines.
"But then I read it and said I should not have been trying to sell or advertise anything, and that's why I got the ticket.
"I was shocked because I did not know anything about it."
Mrs Ockelford said she had not paid the £60 penalty, but had written to the council to appeal against the fine.
"To be fair there is a notice on the car park where you buy the ticket telling of 13 things that you can't do on a car park, and this was one of them.
"But who reads the signs fully when you are trying to get a few errands done?"
